Growing from the Roots

Growing from the Roots

The Volunteer Grandparents Legacy Book

In the spring of 2010, Po-Yi Liu, the Environmental Legacy Program Coordinator for Volunteer Grandparents, designed a collaborative book project, aimed at demonstrating the connection between intergenerational relationships and ecological sustainability. Growing from the Roots is a  diverse collection of stories and reflections from the people who have helped to strengthen the Volunteer Grandparents organization: volunteers, families, staff and supporters. The book represents our legacy as an organization, and the impact our programs have had on the individuals involved.

In the summer of 2011, Volunteer Grandparents reprinted a second edition of Growing from the Roots. Our second edition included more photos, stories and memories which demonstrated the significance and importance of intergenerational relations, as well as Volunteer Grandparents’ programs in the lives of families, and within our community.

Thanks to a printing grant received from the City of Burnaby in 2020,  our summer student Ava Lanoway helped edit and coordinate the printing of our third edition of our legacy book.
